For those interested, Mike Morrill is #3 in this 1987 game against Syracuse. First time the Gaits and Petro meet on the field....

Every time I watch that replay I get a good chuckle out of how hard the ref who called Stanwick's goal good stared down the other ref. Great stuff.

It's a good thing they weren't playing in the Dome against SU or the goal would have been disallowed and 'Cuse would have been awarded the ball.

Whit also helped out with York College for a bit as well. Now he spends much of is time helping HS kids prep for the SATs/ACTs.

Check out the final stats from that game.....

Final score SU 15 JHU 14
Saves SU 20 JHU 26 - 46 saves!
Man up SU 3/7, JHU 5/13 - 20 penalties!!!
Clears SU 24, JHU 27 - 51 clears

Nobody needed a shot clock back then to keep things interesting.

make everyone play with those same sticks from 1987 and the game would change right back to attacking while you can before a check can knock the ball out. since that's not going to happen we need a shot clock.

Would it be possible to buy a ticket from someone leaving after the first game and use it to get into the Hop/Duke game or can the same ticket not be used to enter the stadium twice? Anyone know? Thanks.

OK. There’s thrifty, and then there’s cheap.

I watched Billy Morrill play for three years 1957 to 1959[ freshmen had to play on a separate team ]. Finest attackmen at JHU ever. I believe he still holds the season record for goals / game. Mickey Webster and Billy were a lethal scoring combination.

The 1957 and 1959 JHU Teams were National Champions (1959 shared the NC with Army ).

The 1958 JHU Team, with Mickey Webster and Billy Morrill (in their 2nd of 3 years together on the Varsity), was undefeated as they had been in 1957. JHU got no recognition as defending undefeated National Champions. It was awarded to Army which did not play JHU. The outrage was great and that was the motivating reason for the eventual NCAA Tournament.

Army purposely dropped Hopkins from its 1958 schedule because they knew it would be very , very difficult to beat them and thus deny them[ Army ] a shot at the national title. They in fact chickened out ; they retreated when faced with a challenge. They were frightened of two skinny Blue Jays with lightning in their wood and gut sticks. They were a real laughing stock...!

Yes, very cheap but worth a shot if you know someone who’s only interested in the first game and you can only attend the second. But it sounds as though there is no re-entry allowed on the same ticket by different people.

The tickets are $20, maybe you could start a gofundme appeal.

if hes rooting for Hopkins i will kick in a buck.
Doc B might donate as well since he spends more money on lemon trees for his yard than most D1 coaches make in a year.

Regarding the actual game this week and the players involved with the program this century.

"Hopkins the most clutch team left in NCAA tournament"
https://www.ncaa.com/news/lacrosse-men/ ... 89745415=1

Hop 7-2 this year in games defined as high tension. Duke the "least clutch" team left in the tournament but 10-0 in games that are dominated by one side or the other. If it's close at halftime it'll favor hopkins.

Duke's lookahead at the game. Has beaten JHU by average of 11.33 goals in recent meetings. First time since 2008 JHU is ranked ahead of duke in polls going into game. JHU 2-1 against duke when it's the higher ranked team, although they don't include 2005. Duke outscoring opponents 70-31 in 2nd quarter-period where hoyas shutout Hop last week.

The replay of last years ncaa game is in full format on youtube. A few things standout from the Hopkins perspective and the first is all the lineup upheaval last year compared to this years team. Aside from a shack injury, some we want Moreland ineffectiveness and some tinkering with the midfield, it's been a very consistent lineup and rotation this year which has to have helped with confidence and cohesiveness. Last year's game every position you look and there's switching around-attack, the midfield lines, close d. No positional continuity and of course the lead story is brock finding out friday he's starting for an ineligible logan. the other thing that stands out is the lack of communication on d and the ssdms like carlini getting bullied-issues we haven't seen this year. It's been a much more consistent roster and level of play which seems to have helped significantly. The veterans they've elevated this year have held up their end, particularly at the ssdm position and the kids they've invested in-Cole, Connor, Colwell, Reinson, Hubler have made solid showings.

Although, correct me if I am wrong, but the bulk of that $20 goes not to USNA athletics, but to the NC$$.

And, maybe I am strange (don't all pile on at once), but my reaction was as much "Wow, he has a bigger problem with the NC$$ than I do" as "He is giving me competition for 'Cheapest man in America'."

Ok ... move along now. We don’t need “your kind” around here. :naughty:

Just joking ... hope you find good tickets and enjoy the games.

Any thoughts on why, given Duke's strong program over the last decade, there is not an active Duke thread going?

Gate revenue. I have been out of the process for quite awhile now. There used to be a contract that defined how thectecebue was divided with the NCAA getting a minimum guarantee and the host getting a percentage of the net. Net was a defined term. Many years ago I heard the NCAA was taking 85% of the net on top of the guarantee. Schools at that point did not have much incentive to host beyond exposure. I don’t know how accurate any of this is after the first part

Glad to hear Whit is tutoring SAT/ACT. He's a smart guy as well as an athlete. We were classmates in first, second, and third grades. I knew he was at York for a while as well as VJC (now Stevenson).

Regarding why no Duke thread?

Slipknot is essentially the only true and constant Duke fan who posts here. Therefore, he knows that a Duke thread would just afford that much more opportunity for we fans of Hopkins to vent.

Just my personal guess here, please all understand.
