Delaware 2010
Delaware 2010
After a lackluster season in Newark I thought this was some pretty interesting news:
http://www.bluehens.com/sportsinfo/foot ... rhire.html
It appears that UD went out and got a serious heavy hitter as AD. He has a background in hoops and he comes to Delaware via Georgetown and Notre Dame, two schools with some big time athletic programs. Edgar Johnson was always a big baseball and football guy and it will be intersting to see if Bernard Muir shakes things up.

Re: Delaware 2010
Losses:
Beau Davis, M
Braedon Dennis, D
Nick LoManto, A
Josh Coveleski, A
Tom Maher, D
The good news is that this was not a very Senior laden team and there is some serious experience returning to Newark next year. Four of the top five goal scorers are back. The starting goalie, Fossner, is back as well as Kostkowski, Dowling and Langmaid on D. There are also some promising recruits that will be Juniors in John Austin, Anthony Ruiz and Carter Bloor.
I think this team has all the potential in the world to make a return to respectability next season. Would love to hear thoughts from others, Gandolph?
Have a good summer boys....and GO HENS!!!!!

The Corning East kids sound like players. Other than that I have been unable to find anything else on the Laxpower boards about these recruits. Interesting that there are no kids from Maryland or the D.C. area as Delaware is a very popular school in these locales. It would be great if folks that are familiar with these kids could give the Delaware folks the low down.

Re: Delaware 2010
3333: returning attackmen for Hens include Dickson, Steverson, Kaleikau, and Lombard who is recovering from ACL tear. O-middies include Cahill and Ruiz. Hope to see changes in 2010 on O such as setting and using picks on and off ball instead of static/ one against 2 or 3 run and gun, which only lead to long/wide/wasted shots (look at stats; shots/goals %) and was too easy to defend. Expect D to be strong and experienced with Stefurak, Dowling and Langmaid, still need to be more aggressive to take opponents out of their game by hedging/double-teaming ball on picks, and sliding better. Overal Hens' lax IQ ought to be higher in 2010 which should lead to more wins instead of one-goal losses.

Trip to JHU, New CAA Foes Highlight 2010 Delaware Schedule
NEWARK, Del. -- A first-ever regular season meeting with perennial national power Johns Hopkins, a second straight trip to the Big City Classic at Giants Stadium, and matchups with new Colonial Athletic Association foes Penn State and Massachusetts highlight a challenging 2010 schedule announced by the University of Delaware men's lacrosse team Wednesday.
The 15-game schedule includes 10 opponents who posted winning records a year ago, including five squads that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2009. Delaware will host seven games at Rullo Stadium this spring beginning with a Feb. 13 meeting with first-time opponent Presbyterian College.
The Blue Hens annually face one of the nation's toughest schedules and this spring will be no different as the slate includes games vs. 2009 NCAA Tournament participants Johns Hopkins (10-5), UMBC (12-4), Massachusetts (9-6), Villanova (11-6), and Hofstra (11-3) as well as against CAA runner-up Towson (7-10) and America East runner-up Stony Brook (9-6). Other opponents Albany (8-6), Georgetown (7-7), Penn State (7-5), and Drexel (8-7) also posted .500 or better records a year ago.
The CAA will feature one fewer team this season with the loss of Villanova, Robert Morris, and Sacred Heart to other conferences. However, the CAA has added perennial NCAA contenders Massachusetts and Penn State to the league to strengthen what was already one of the top NCAA Division I conferences. Delaware will host Massachusetts Apr. 17 and Drexel Apr. 24 while traveling to Towson Apr. 3 and Penn State May 1. The Hens will meet league foe Hofstra for the second straight year at the Big City Classic Apr. 10 at Giants Stadium in Rutherford, N.J. The four-team CAA Tournament will be held May 5-7 at the site of the regular season champion.
The non-league schedule is highlighted by a first-ever meeting at Johns Hopkins Feb. 23 in Baltimore. The Blue Jays advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals a year ago and captured the national title in 2007. The Hens have met Johns Hopkins just two other times, falling in the NCAA Tournament in both 1984 and 2007.
Other non-league action includes home games vs. Albany on March 6, Stony Brook on March 12, Villanova on March 20, and Vermont on March 27. Other non-league road games will put the Hens vs. Saint Joseph's on Feb. 6, at UMBC Feb. 20, at Hartford on Feb. 27, and at Georgetown on March 24.
Delaware, led by 31st year head coach Bob Shillinglaw, will be looking to bounce back from last year's tough 5-10 season that saw the Hens drop seven games by three goals or less. The Hens will welcome the return of leading scorer and All-American attackman Curtis Dickson as well as All-CAA selections Martin Cahill, Pat Dowling, Tommy Lee, and Kevin Kaminski.

Re: Delaware 2010
Not many cupcakes on the Hens schedule for 2010. JHU is a great addition and I have wondered why this has not been an annual game for quite some time. I am sure there are a myriad of reasons, but the 45 minute drive is not one of them!
The Hens have a lot of returning players/starters, lets hope that another year on the field treats them well.

UDel. may qualify to also play in the America East Championship as well playing 5 of the 6 AE teams with the exclusion of Binghamton.
So, I guess you never ran into a bus driver before?!

With Collins leaving wouldn't that leave two assistant positions open? 2nd Assistant and volunteer spot.

Hens face two good teams, Princeton and Bucknell, noon next Saturday at UD. Better to be tested and even lose than to beat cupcakes. They'll have something to make them work harder until St. Joe's opener followed by Hopkins, etc., tough schedule to be sure. See article on fall ball scrimmages on UD's website as well as laxpower and Insidelacrosse. Expect starters to play more in first game against Pton with recruits getting ptime against Bcknl. Testing under fire for all players on all teams.

As you will see from my above post on "Inside the Pride" it was announced today that the Hofstra-Delaware game in the Big City Classic will be the first at the New Meadowlands Stadium. This is an exciting opportunity for both programs and and hopefully there will be a big crowd for it.

How did the Freshmen look? Who played? The list given back in May...that's incomplete. Any rookies going to step up and contribute?

HofstraAndrew: thanks for the heads-up about BCC and game with UD @ 1:00.
devil: freshmen saw action ag Bucknell, but it is hard to tell as no rosters with jersey numbers were posted or available. What was impressive was the tenacity of UD as a whole, on O and D, and improvements/changes over last year. They cleared the ball so much better for one thing. And there was more movement. Talent was there. Has to gel. Some of the kids were light, and are going to have to bulk up or get creamed. But good skills. Hear the UVA transfer Elsmo(?) brings a lot to the game and is well-received--think he's a soph. Also other sophs stepped up in Princeton and Bcknl game--Fitzgerald on pole and Keleiku on A. Cooney did well on FO behind Lee. So guys looked good, less selfish, which makes UD tougher to defend. Lots of energy will carry them to 1/30 Colgate scrimmage.

Besides Elsmo, didn't the Hens pick up OSU transfer Erik Smith (lefty attack)? Younger bro to famous Alex Smith. A talented attackman out of Boys' Latin if memory serves.

sounds like the hens now have an abundance of quality attackmen... will 1 or 2 of them split some time at the midfield... elsmo is definitely a quality pickup...
