Check out my posts about the Stags 2009 and 2010 recruits on the SCOUTFAIRFIELD.com Lacrosse Forum...Johnson, Walsh, Callahan, Nagel, Reid, Fritts, Phillips and Snow are some of the recruits whose accomplishments on the lacrosse field have really stood out.

No, I haven't heard anything yet about next year's schedule.

So by my count this year's recruiting class includes five All-Americans [Callahan, Johnson, Phillips, Snow, Walsh] and five who were pivotal members of their state championship team [Fritts, Johnson, Rubertone, Walsh, Wells]. What do Stag fans think of this year's recruiting class compared to past years? Last year's class including Adams, Cipriano and Snellman proved to be very impressive. The 2003 class of Bocklet, Downing and Kruger was a great class as was the 2000 class of Bamann, Bauers, Werney and Vlahakis.

It's cool to see Fairfield attracting some talented players from the non traditional recruiting areas. Hopefully they will succeed and garner some more attention for the team.

Santangelo picks Fairfield

After showing up time and time again in big spots, Rob Santangelo proved he deserved a little more attention.

It appears the effort has not gone unnoticed.

Santangelo has given a verbal commitment to Fairfield University, and is planning to play for the Stags following a post grad year at Westminster along with Donald Keough, a Rye teammate who’s heading for Notre Dame.

“I think it’s going to be great,” Santangelo said. “I wanted to go there when I was a junior, but they didn’t want me. I needed to get better. This year I did what I need to in order to improve. I took a lot upon myself. So to get this over with this summer is awesome.”

Santangelo is back to working out after suffering a nasty hip pointer in the Section 1 Class C final against Putnam Valley. He’s close to full speed, but it required several weeks off. The persistent attackman was also looking at Penn and Bucknell.

Yes, he was bragging about getting a 1,320 on the SAT.

“I figured that Fairfield was the best fit for me,” said Santangelo, who dropped 30 pounds before the season. “I liked (head coach) Andy Copelan a lot.”

I also noticed that All-Section 1 Middie Kevin Reda from Pleasantville, NY has committed to the Stags. What's the word on Kevin?

Not when Golmont is healthy! Johnson will have to adjust to the college game. Time will tell.

What was the nature of Steve's injury? He had some strong X performances to start last season before his injury set in. The Stags really struggled once Steve went down. The Georgetown game was probably the low point with the Stags failing to control the ball and gain any traction on offense. I agree that time will tell. Steve is the front runner, but, I expect freshmen Johnson and Phillips to create some healthy competition at the X.

It's not a chronic injury...The addition of the two freshman FOGO's is good for the Stags! Lord knows they where very short in that department! But I don't think the freshman will be much of an impact right out of the gate. I could be wrong but it usually takes a season for most specialists to find their grove and to just mature in that position...But I agree that healthy competition good! And, I'll take it a step further and say that it is key to building champions! I'm liking how the team is positioned this season...IMO I think the Stag's bench is deep! It showed in the last game against St John's....Looking forward to fall ball...BTW, what are the Stags doing this fall? I saw where the Catamount Tournament announced the participating teams and the Stags aren't one of them???
I thought it was a good gage last year to see how the boys stacked up... :confusion-shrug:

IL.com is reporting that defenseman Drew Palmer is transferring from Navy to Fairfield. Drew was a two-time (2006, `07) Monroe County First-Team All-League selection and participated in the 2007 National High School Senior Showcase and 2007 US Lacrosse U19 National Team tryout. 8)

Sophomore D Drew Palmer is transferring to Fairfield from Navy, a source told IL.com. At Webster-Schroeder (NY) High, Palmer holds the records for groundballs in a season (165) and career (366).

Congrats FF - you have a very good defenseman headed your way. Palmer was dominant for NAPS in '08 & for the Navy JV last yr. (imho) he could have been a significant factor at Navy the next 3 yrs. He can do it all - has the tools to be a shutdown dman. Watch his pokechecks & trailchecks - you'll see the hockey pedigree. Really fun to watch if you enjoy tenaciuos defense - 'got game.

No doubt Drew is a good player... Wonder why he left Navy though

But where did you come up with the Webster Schroeder Records? I have never seen them published or listed anywhere? I would love to see other stats from the school such as goals, assists, saves, FO, etc. I never knew they collected these numbers.

long term career considerations - not a lacrosse decision.
