Marist 2010

New postby MadMike on Tue Sep 29, 2009 9:28 am

Section V is well represented at Marist, no surprise as Scott Nelson coached a highly successful Nazareth team in Rochester, NY before moving to Marist.

Current freshmen Connor Rice and James Dwyer look to contribute sooner rather than later. Marist hosts the MAAC tournament again this year with Siena, Manhattan, Mount Saint Mary's, Canisius and Saint Joseph's all wanting to participate. Will Marist be working the tournament or participating?

The early recruit list for 2010 is full of Section V talent with Joe Dupra (Pittsford), Kenny Tomeno (Webster Thomas), Nick Wolak (Brighton), Tucker Nelson (Penfield) and Gannon Osborn (Canandaigua).

This is a first for a Division 1 team, recruiting 5 boys from the Rochester area in one class. I guess we will see how it works out. I am happy to see this as Section V has long been an also-ran in recruiting for Division 1 talent.

Coach Nelson is doing a nice job of looking within the entire Northeast region. The last two recruiting years as seen six players from Long Island, seven from the Rochester area, four from the Hudson Valley, a couple each from the Syracuse and MD, plus individual players from CT, NJ and PA. He looks to be casting a wider net to get the talent he needs to bring the program up to where it needs to be.

We will get a chance to see how the 2009-2010 recruits blend with the players from last year at West Point on Sunday (10/4). Scrimmage between Stonybrook, West Point and Marist begins at 12 noon.

Looking forward to seeing how the boys will do !

I am looking forward to seeing some of the freshman and talented sophs that played last year. Should be a good mix with the veteran juniors and seniors. Will need strong leadership from the senior class.

Inside Lacrosse isn't exactly a source of accurate info. After all they ranked Brother Rice the #1 team in the country two years ago :hand: and picked Denver as the "laxiest" town in the country :liar: .

Connor played very well in his first outing. He knows how to create and showed a lot of hustle :D .

The team looked good for Fall Ball.

I believe that one of the juniors from last year (would be a senior this year) decided not to return for the 2010 champaign.

The 2010 roster can be found here: http://goredfoxes.cstv.com/sports/m-lac ... s-mtt.html

lineups

New postby SectionVLax14 on Wed Oct 21, 2009 8:30 am

Does anyone know or have any guesses when it comes to the starting lineup this year? I know its early and a lot can change but I hear the class of 2013 is one of the best in years and a lot of freshman look to see playing time.

SectionVLax14:

Way too early to tell. Rice got a lot of playing time with first/second team attack, so he should see a good amount of playing time. Quick, good stick skills and can deliver the ball with accuracy. Mike O'Hagen looked good at the middie position. Aggressive and a bit of a bull-dog, I can see him creating some chaos at the middie position. T.J. McDermott and Pat Wall have good size on defense, and could find some playing time in the spring. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I didn't have a roster during the Army and Alumni scrimmages. Hopefully others can provide more info.

The roster still says 2009 but I did some checking with some of the players and it is the 2010 list.
There are some players that were there last year but were not listed, not just Seniors either.
Just my 2 cts.
Keep playin' hard or you will hardly play.

At this point, speculating would be counter productive.

During those two seasons, Faller was named All-Conference, All-Area, and All-State. As a junior, Faller scored 95 goals and had 127 points.

Midfielder Partrick Fermo is from Red Bank, N.J. While playing lacrosse for the Ranney School, Fermo has scored 105 goals in his career with 150 career points and 253 career ground balls. Fermo has also played soccer, and run cross country and track, at Ranney School.

Craig Goodermote is a 5'8” goalie at Sachem East High School. A native of Holtsville, N.Y., Goodermote will be a three-year varsity letterwinner. He has also played on the varsity ice hockey team the last three seasons. In lacrosse, Goodermote has a career 67% save percentage and a 6.7 goals against average. He was named All-Division I in 2009.

A 5'10” attack, Tucker Nelson will be a four-year letterwinner at Penfield High School in Penfield, N.Y. Nelson was a Second-Team All-League pick in 2008, and was a First-Team All-County selection in 2009. In 2009, he scored 35 goals with 30 assists for 65 points on the year. He also plays football and basketball at Canandaigua Academy. Osborn was a Second Team All-Finger Lakes selection in football in 2008, and Third-Team in basketball for the 2008-09 season.

Also a midfielder, Kenny Tomeno is from Webster, N.Y. and plays lacrosse for Thomas High School. He has led Thomas to a Section V championship and was named the tournament MVP. Recruits and Preseason Ranking

New postby SectionVLax14 on Wed Dec 02, 2009 3:07 pm

Sounds like Coach Nelson and Coach Wilkinson pulled in a great group of guys for the graduating class of 2014, hopefully Marist can prove division 1 lacrosse wrong this year with their preseason number 5 in the MAAC on Inside Lacrosse and win the championship at home

Two very solid recruiting classes in '13 and '14. Two years with Coach Nelson and his system. Things are looking up.

What I particularly like is that the two most recent classes all have players that have won a number of championships (plus individual honors). These guys know what it takes to win!
