St. Mary's 2013
Re: St. Mary's 2013
huge win for the seahawks. thrilling game led by bert's awesome performance at the x. looks like a new guy out dominating. defense was solid with harty making their attack unit look pretty vulnerable. New keep mad some on his head saves especially when the refs called a lot of penalties late. it was great to smcm slow it down and control the ball in the final minutes of the 4th. noke put together a big 4th but the seahawks toughed it out. great win for these guys, gunna get a lot out of the film tomorrow too.

Big win for the Hawks, will be challenging to avoid a letdown next week vs Dickinson. The last 5 times St. Mary's has beaten a ranked opponent they dropped the next game: last year upset #3 Dickinson then got worked by F&M, in '09 beat #2 Salisbury then lost the rematch vs SU and again the next week to Ursinus, in '06 beat #2 Noke then fell to WAC, and back in '01 they beat a great Whittier team only to lose to Colorado College, and in the same year had a big road win at Lynchburg followed by an OT loss to Salisbury. Up to Haz to keep the team focused and ready to play in Baltimore vs Dickinson next week.

Re: St. Mary's 2013
That's why coaches get paid the big bucks....just kidding. Great win for the Hawks but to be honest there is alot of room for improvement. Squandered alot of opportunities and let referees take over the pace of the game in the fourth. They will get better! While Dickinson has to be out for revenge and they also have to be looking at a win over Noke and be a little concerned.
In every sport and at every level, letdown after a big win is critical to avoid. History is a great teacher but this is a new team with new players....

Great win for St. Mary's. Love seeing the CAC beating the ODAC. Hopefully St. Mary's can make the CAC a little more interesting this year.

I believe Dickinson won 19-5. Not what most people were expecting I'd imagine. Any insight from people actually at the game?

It looks like their starting goalie went (0-9) and his back ups had five combine saves. Dickinson scored on 19/24 shots on goals. Rough day in cage.

Wasn't the goalie. DC dominated on both sides of the field.

If you look at previous history you will see the coach behavior is not odd but more par for the course.
Guys will be paying for that one
It's early in the season, alot can happen - good luck Seahawks.

Much better effort today for the Hawks, 13-5 over Drew. Ten of the thirteen goals were assisted.

St marys will always beat the lesser teams like drew and look good doing it. Its when they hit the top 20 they pretty much fail. Once in a while they will surprise someone early season. Last year dickinson, this year roanoke.

Re: St. Mary's 2013
Its funny you say that.
Most teams would be pretty excited to have a win over a top ten opponent, each year.
Given some of the challenges smc has faced, including highly competitive admission standards, being in a conference with su and Steve (read: tough AQ), and less than stellar athletic funding, I'd say they are doing pretty well.
Regular top 20 programs are not built overnight. And smc appears to have an upward trajectory the past few years.
One bad outing does not ruin a season if they learn from it. Looks like a good group of players on the river. Let's see how they focus the rest of the season.

Tough loss for the Hawks against WAC, but that said, the first 3 quarters looked very good. This team has a lot to be optimistic about, and quite a few more good opportunities coming up, before they even get into CAC play. I think it this team keeps plugging away, it could do some specuial things.

I would love to see this team get a shot at the NCAA's this year. BUT - they need to beat the quality teams along the way. Blowing a 4 goal lead with 7+ minutes left in the game is a tough one to swallow. Hope they can put 4 consistent quarters together vs Muhlenberg.

Re: St. Mary's 2013
In a short season like lacrosse, any loss hurts.
But at this point, if they stay focused, the Hawks are definately in the hunt.
Looking at the early season in the south, I think Steve and Dickinson are the clear top dogs.
Then there are MANY similar teams:
SU already has 2 OOC losses. And my guess is that by season's end LC, W&L, Gburg, Noke, SMC, WAC and Denison will all have beaten each other up and be "interchangeable..."
I also say watch out for F&M, Muhlenberg, OWU, H-SC, CNU, UMW and York...they all appear to have some good talent, are flying under the radar, and want to get into the conversation too. All very dangerous.

Re: St. Mary's 2013
Agree on all counts Smell...lots of teams who - at least early - appear to be in the hunt. Saw York play Dickinson's starters to a 3-3 halftime tie in the preseason until the sub'ing started in earnest. They've since beaten Muhlenberg 15-10 and McDaniel 9-7 in some hard fought games. Not sure they're "there" yet, but they appear to be making headway. And yes, St. Mary's appears to be on the right trajectory too if not without its fits and starts (like everyone else). Heck, Frostburg is 3-0! The CAC might be more fun than usual this year.
Best of luck St. Mary's!

What happened today? I was excited about the team's big win against Roanoke and NCAA tournament's prospects. Now the Roanoke win has lost it's shine and the Seahawks are sitting at 2-3.
