Would love to see Cabrini join the CAC. Would solve their issue of a soft conference schedule and add even more depth to the CAC.

Woah...woah...pump the brakes Runner. Lets see how they actually fair in a CAC contest first. CNU, Marymount and Salisbury are first 3 on the schedule, then we can revisit being competitive. Don't get me wrong, I hope they are. The more competition the better for everyone!!!

SVU is 4-0....obviously best start ever albeit against less competitive teams than up and down the CAC. Interesting LDS story line....now I understand why the Utah-heavy roster, with three of the coaches sons on the team too. Beat my alma mater today, Baldwin Wallace, which IMO is best team they have played this year. Tell tale stat was winning 80% of faceoffs, giving them a huge possession edge, which looks like was the big difference. Both teams have to get better on D, goalies only saving 40%....tell tale sign of work to be done. I predict SVU freshman FO is rookie of the year in CAC....will be interested to see how he does against the CAC FO's. Good luck to both teams this year!

That new conference looks pretty weak. Probably why MMU is bailing out of the CAC. With the teams Cabrini has had in the past CAC would be more competitive for them and you're right it looks like a better fit. MMU just cannot compete it this conference. Does not get the players or have the coaching that had 15+ years ago when they were ranked.

CNU wins over SVU, 20-7. They dominated at FO and had balanced scoring across the board. Great CAC win for CNU.

Big game for CNU's Matt Crist with 6 goals, 3 assists.

I was really surprised how inept SVU offense was when they did get possession. Seemed like they rushed the play trying to score as fast as they could, to make up the difference. Which led to bad decisions. I thought whoever had the ball last was going to win this game. Totally wrong. Jace Thomas was out gunned by Tony Cruz, who only won 7-21. Thomas was having an outstanding year at this point. Shots was a telling sign, 48-26 CNU. You can still see SVU does have some talent on the offensive side. I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat some quality teams this and the next couple of years. Lamb is making some strides on the recruiting trail.

Mary Washington had a nice win on the road against Widener in OT. MW out shot Widener 42-29. Chris White with 4 goals and Shane McKenzie had 6 points to lead MW.
York with a huge win over Lynchburg on the road. Game really wasn’t close. 7 players scoring with three hat tricks. Such a deep roster. Marshall had a 45% save percentage
Frostburg had a tough but winnable road game against Washington. Netminder only saved 3 shots, but the rest of the stats Frostburg did well. Out shooting Washington 34-27.
Wesley had a real tough loss to Mount Union 4-3 at home.
Marymount had a nice win over St. Vincent’s 11-6 their goalie Patrick Ruleman had a 70% save percentage. Wow
Salisbury plays on the road to today against Ohio Wesleyan. You never want to play the Gulls after a loss.

It will be interesting to see if they can recruit. Utah has to be the favorite of the top players in Utah. BYU is a good club team but you have to put up with being at BYU. Wish SVU the best.

Was up at the Mary Wash game in lovely Chester PA yesterday. Eagles looked shaky for most of first 3 quarters and then turned it on winning 4th quarter 5-0 and scoring on first possesion of OT. They continue to get solid scoring from their mids - Shane McKenzie (2g,4a), Owen Dingman (2g,2a), Chase K (2g,1A) and attack Chris White had his 3rd 4 goal game of the season with a nice behing back goal to tie it up with 3 minutes left.

D struggled some early but made plays when they had too. Michael Colgan (6 gb) and Davis King both played well.

Not much time to rest before taking on a surging W&L Wednesday. If the Eagle team that played Ursinus shows up that should be a great game. If it's the team that played Widener....... At least it's not a 5 hour bus ride!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Continuing to haul in awards for his work last week, CNU’s Matthew Crist has been selected to the USILA National Team of the Week after making history during the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team's victory at Southern Virginia on Saturday.

During CNU's 20-7 win over the Knights, Crist contributed nine points, including six goals. His nine points equaled the single-game program record, while his six tallies marked the second-most by a Captain in school history. The senior standout also scooped up three ground balls in the victory.

For his work during the game, Crist was previously celebrated as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Does anyone know when www.herosports.com update their rankings. Nice site but they don’t refresh their numbers that much.

TEAM 1 2 3 4 T
Illinois Wesleyan 6 3 5 0 14
Christopher Newport 7 7 3 7 24
TEAM COMPARISON
Illinois Wesleyan STATS Christopher Newport
38 Shots 48
11 Saves 12
33 Ground Balls 45
20-41 FOs Won/Attempted 21-41
11-16 Clears 17-19
3-7 Xtra Man Opps 4-4
4 Penalties 7
210 Seconds 210

CNU had 5 players score 3 goals or more. Senior Matt Crist had 8 points and Freshman Dylan Rice had 7 points. Tony Cruz won 20 out of 37 face offs. IWU had a lot of fire power and came back a couple of times to almost tie the game. Little weird that IWU is having problems with their man up unit when they seem to score at will at times. More of a run and gun offense.

It will be interesting to see if CNU can keep their winning ways going. Roanoke, York, and Salisbury all on the horizon. I think a win over Roanoke could put them in pool c conversation but things would really need to swing their way to get a spot. They'll need to stay focused and avoid an upset (maybe pull an upset) in conference.

So true Blanked, last time CNU made the tournament was “13 when they were an independent. The Captains don’t have that established history to get by on their good looks. Your right about Roanoke, if they can beat them on the road, they should get in the South bracket. They can only lose to the Gulls and York.
Mikey Thompson and Zach Thomas are becoming top coaches in D3. I don’t think either one is 30 yet. The kids really respect them and their buying into their system. This team is good, but in two years they will be a Top 10 contender

I think if CNU wants to be considered a top 10 team they'll need a big signature win. I know they have a OT win against SU in 2014 and a 1 goal win over York in 2015 (York had a pretty bad year) but they lack consistency. A CAC championship appearance would help their case but it's hard for me to see that happening in 2018 or 2019. I do think CNU has all the right ingredients (Coaches, location, conference) to make it happen sooner than later.

CNU is a very good team. They are pretty complete...good FO guy, strong defense (close as well as D Mids), disciplined offense that makes the most of their opportunities. It will be interesting to see how they fare vs. York and Salisbury.

Looks like CNU will need to win their next 4 games to earn any respect. Currently ranked #18 at 8-0,1 spot ahead of a 6-3 team they beat 12-7 earlier this year. After watching this team in 5 games this year, I think they are a top 10 team. The next 4 games will determine how good they are. I suspect the worm is turning in the CAC. Great coaches, young talent, and a new lacrosse stadium in 2 years. The future in bright in Newport News....maybe sooner than many think.

I think CNU is a good team. It will be interesting to see how they do against 'Noke, York, and Salisbury. The only reason I do not see them as a top 10 team or maybe even top 15 team, is I am not sure who you would knock out of the top 10 to include them.

CNU 13-7 win. Once CNU picked up the tempo they took over the game. Shots in favor of the Captains 30-18, GB 33-14, FO 16-23.
CNU scoring 9 goals in the second half. Roanoke Wednesday, St Mays on Saturday then Salisbury at home the following Wednesday night.
