The young ones had a lot of fun and learned alot in the last 5 weeks and we will find out whats what shortly. As stated many times, I've yet to read any smack talking predictions of greatness,so why don't the gator-haters take a look at the schedule and make your dire predictions of gloom for the new kids. Go ahead, put your written words were your mouthes are.

No "gator-hater" here. I am just a person who has no stomach for "hype" ... as that found in the vicinity of fall ball "scores." Florida appears to have a good selection of players from some VERY GOOD HIGH SCHOOLS and their coach appears to have been an excellent choice. They should do well and hopefully they will ... unless they are playing against a team I like better.

Concerning: "No, the score keeping ended abruptly after the 4 out of 6 wins ..." FIRST, as you well know, there are no "wins" in fall ball. SECOND, I only noticed the Florida website's posting of "fall ball scores" very recently ... and, as of yesterday, the scores posted there were for Jacksonville (WIN), Rollins (WIN), Syracuse (TIE???), North Carolina (LOSS), Northwestern (LOSS), Penn (LOSS), and Princeton (LOSS). You may have been at the scrimmages and you may have witnessed "wins" against Duke or others ... but, unless those "scores" were pulled off the Florida website even earlier than what was pulled today, you did not see them posted recently ( ... THANK YOU PRINT SCREEN).

This one goes out to LGL. I am okay with taking as many shots as required to get the job done ... but, from what I have read, you (LGL) have a different opinion. How about this for shooting? According to the "game story" available at the Florida website: "In game two against Rollins, ... the Gators opened up a 9-1 advantage ... with 12:33 remaining in the first half. UF outshot the Tars 53-9, with 40 shots on goal." (NOTE: "Tars" are NOT to be confused with "Tarheels")

Why are you telling me about shots in a "game" that never happened? There was no shot advantage, no shots on goal or any time on a clock. It never happened, right? Have a nice day! :)

I guess I should quit while I'm behind but I've never really got the hang of that. The Fall Ball thread is chock full of scores, comparisons, W-L's, predictions with no outrage that it's only fall ball. Many of the post are by the same that are protesting the loudest over here. I guess it's ok if you're talking about your favorite team.

As the late wrestling manager great Captain Lou Albano would say, after clocking his client's opponent in the head with a steel chair, "It never happened. It was merely an optical illusion. I did not enter that ring".

FALL BALL...merely an optical illusion!

[quote="WLAXUSA"][quote="fanofall"]IT'S ONLY FALL BALL, but

(The good news for you is that the Gators did not lose to anybody ... yet. There will be a REAL GAME with North Carolina on February 28 and another REAL GAME with Georgetown on March 9. I will be very interested to see how the new Gators do then ... IF they get by Jacksonville.)

After looking at their regular season schedule: my prediction for the baby Gator's season final record: at best 8 and 8, more likely 7 and 9 .... Not bad for a first year program .... I hope they fool me !

You think fall scores don't matter in the fall?? Someone try telling that to Louisville. In their game vs. Maryland, they celebrated after goals like it was the National Championship, and stalled for the last 2 minutes of the game to preserve the win. At least, I think they won. Score was not being kept on the scoreboard.

Please, please, please ... fall ball happened. It is fun. It gives us lots to talk about. It helps us make our totally useless opinions. It has value as helps mold team dynamics and helps make all 29 players a part of the whole. That being said, the results of the fall ball games are in reality meaningless. Can excellent players exist on any team in any division? Of course. Can an excellent team exist in any division? Of course. Are great coaches in every division? Most definitely. Will the results of fall ball games have any impact on the world other then random posts on Laxpower? Nope.

Most importantly, ask me if I value the DI lacrosse experience over the DII or DIII lacrosse experience? The answer is a resounding "No!" The only reason to play lacrosse in college is to have fun. We play to indulge our desire for competition. Where we choose to compete and where we choose to get our educations are as personal a decision as can be made and I for one support anyone to make any decision they want regarding their lives.

Finally, my totally useless opinion is that top DI schools will consistently beat top DII and DIII schools. That all so means that top DII and DIII schools might occasionally upset a top DI school. That is why I love competition. That is why games are played. I have also said that the playing field between the top DII and DIII schools and DI schools get level much higher in the rankings then many want to believe.

Larry, just shoot me and get me out of THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

Why would I shoot you or anyone? No Orange jumpsuit in my future. If you don't want to go to The Twilight Zone, fine. I'll see you at the Night Gallery.

It's all so surreal, there's the credit card receipts from five different states and DC, the stain from a Bloody Mary on the top of my cooler, the weekend down the beach with friends I blew-off.

I hear LGL was seen in front of Independence Hall, shouting at tourists; dressed in pajama bottoms, a rain coat, no shoes, yelling something about not adjusting the dials on their television sets. Can you imagine, adjustment dials on a television ?

I have fragmented memories; of speed, strength, bright colors, competition, camaraderie and hotel lobbies crowded with determined looks. It's like the name on the tip of your tongue, so close, but just out of reach.

Well, if WLAXUSA says there were no games.... then I guess there were no games.

LGL get well soon. :D

For the record, I have never indicated that fall scrimmages never HAPPENED ... I have indicated that fall scrimmages just do not MATTER as an indicator of how things will go in the spring.

The following poster (ncram65) has said it much better than me:
ncram65 wrote:In addition to playing the entire team in a fall ball game, the coaches will also experiment with tactics in ways they would never do in a game that counted.

Hey, it's fun to watch fall ball contests--nothing like a college campus on a nice fall day, and I think you can get a sense of which of a team's new players are going to contribute. I don't think they have much predictive value for the real season.

At the risk of fueling the fire even more, TL reminds folks that just a few short years ago there was another brand new program that was gonna rock the lax world and dominate the sport...almost immediately, in the minds of some.

What hapened to them? ANSWER TL!!!!

That is all.

Peace, out.

2pontificate, good post. Just curious, has a D2/D3 "top team" ever beaten a "top" D1 team? From what I've seen there's little play outside one's division.

I've seen Adelphi in non-existant fall ball games and IMO there is little likelihood they could beat a "top" D1 team, though they could beat a lot of D1 teams. I also think their is little likelihood an average (500 record) D1 team could beat a "top" D1 team. For the sake of argument, let's use Top Twenty as defining "Top."

Will be an interesting spring. Most new programs having little expectations their first season. Clearly expectations are high for the Gators. I am looking forward to watching and reading all your posts once the season starts. I think it is great for women's lacrosse.
