Free movement of ball in crosse (Girls pocket)

What exactly has to happen to prove "free movement"? I see some referees tip the crosse forward and then I see some put the ball in the pocket and roll it around. If you do the latter, then most of the sticks I string are fine. But if you get the former, and the ref is very slow with tipping it forward, then the ball sometimes catches on the shooting string. I've had one stick rejected because of this. I was recently told that a ref should roll the ball (not tip it) similar to the video below (is that correct?).

HS (NFHS) the umpire uses their hand to roll it.

NCAA umpires drop it in and tilt it- front and back side. No touch once dropped in.
