You can't draw any conclusions from the McDonough games. McDonough's offense is lightyears ahead of Landon/Prep when it comes to offensive philosophy and offensive formations. I can guarantee you that neither school had seen an offense like McDonough's before. Not many teams at this level go with 4WRs and throw the ball on every play. The Prep and Landon LBs and DBs had never seen anything like that.....their defensive struggles in those games is not a reflection of their talent or skill, but rather a reflection of their inexperience facing off against a pass-first team.
Neither team this weekend will throw the ball much so the ability to play pass defense won't really be a factor. Maybe somebody hits a long pass or two but it's not like either team is putting together a gameplan centered around throwing the ball.
The game will most certainly come down to the running game.
1. Who can stop the run?
2. Who can move the ball up and down the field with their RB?
Landon has a very good defense but their offense struggles at times. The Bears D could play GREAT and only allow 14 points....but there is a chance that Landon's offense has one of their "off days" and won't be able to put up 2 TDs. Should be a low scoring game. I expect Gribbon to get 20+ carries with mixed results. Maybe he breaks off a few long runs that decide the outcome of the game but I don't see either team marching up and down the field on each other. Landon typically gets their offensive TDs off of turnovers or great field position. If GP takes care of the ball and forces Landon to go 60, 70, 80 yards in order to get points, I'm not sure they're capable of doing that on a consistent basis.
If both team's had McDonough-style offenses, this game would be an incredibly exciting shootout. However, I'm expecting run up the middle, run up the middle, run off tackle, punt....to be the theme of the day.
My Over-Under on the total number of passes thrown is 10.
