I've seen Landon several times this year and Prep twice. Prep certainly has the size advantage this year but they aren't a physical front. Prep wasn't physical at all against St. Albans this past weekend.

As for skilled positions, neither team lacks a bigtime wide receiver and a stud QB. Neither Landon or Prep have a stud behind the center. I do think prep has the advantage at Rb with Gribbon. He is extremely quick and can make people miss him. Wellington for landon is more of a power running back. Too bad neither team throws the ball very well since it seems that both secondary's are very average this year - I guess both teams were picked apart by McDonogh.

Landon has only given up 28 points ONCE in the past two seasons and that was against a very good McDonogh squad this fall. I really don't see Prep putting up more than 21 points against Landon.

You can't draw any conclusions from the McDonough games. McDonough's offense is lightyears ahead of Landon/Prep when it comes to offensive philosophy and offensive formations. I can guarantee you that neither school had seen an offense like McDonough's before. Not many teams at this level go with 4WRs and throw the ball on every play. The Prep and Landon LBs and DBs had never seen anything like that.....their defensive struggles in those games is not a reflection of their talent or skill, but rather a reflection of their inexperience facing off against a pass-first team.

Neither team this weekend will throw the ball much so the ability to play pass defense won't really be a factor. Maybe somebody hits a long pass or two but it's not like either team is putting together a gameplan centered around throwing the ball.

The game will most certainly come down to the running game.

1. Who can stop the run?
2. Who can move the ball up and down the field with their RB?

Landon has a very good defense but their offense struggles at times. The Bears D could play GREAT and only allow 14 points....but there is a chance that Landon's offense has one of their "off days" and won't be able to put up 2 TDs. Should be a low scoring game. I expect Gribbon to get 20+ carries with mixed results. Maybe he breaks off a few long runs that decide the outcome of the game but I don't see either team marching up and down the field on each other. Landon typically gets their offensive TDs off of turnovers or great field position. If GP takes care of the ball and forces Landon to go 60, 70, 80 yards in order to get points, I'm not sure they're capable of doing that on a consistent basis.

If both team's had McDonough-style offenses, this game would be an incredibly exciting shootout. However, I'm expecting run up the middle, run up the middle, run off tackle, punt....to be the theme of the day.

My Over-Under on the total number of passes thrown is 10.

Landon has seen McDonogh before and they actually beat them last year in Bethesda. Johnson was a little off that day and he had a couple of drops - he put up only 13 on the Bears. But, no doubt, that passing game is much more prolific than anything either defense needs to prepare for in this matchup. I do think Phillips is a matchup problem for the Bears and so he should see a few passes as part of the play action game that Schryber executes very well.

Gernerally speaking, I would agree with this analysis. I think the game comes down to weather or not Landon can post points on offense.

I will say that Landon did pass the ball 14 times in the win at Woodberry and I would expect that many attempts against Prep - out of necessity. Landon's QB had his best day of the season in that game. He is helped by having his top receiver at full strength - which was not the case against McDonogh.

I know this is highly unlikely...
but it would incredibly ironic if Keena joined Solomon and Dobbins @ MD

GtownMD, pretty good analysis there, I would've taken the "over" on the the ten passes and won, but not by a ton. Otherwise I'd say you pretty much called it, although some flukie plays certainly played a part in the final result. All in all, it was a nice day to go Bear hunting on Wilson Lane!
