Congratulations to Michael Tagliaferri on a
tremendous career at North Carolina.

One of the top recruits ever out of California.

The Heels were 56 and 27 during Tags' time there.
Including one National Title last year, as well as two quarterfinal appearances.

During UNC's national title run last year, Tags was named All American. Tags' athleticism allowed Joe Breschi to use him in all sorts of game situations, defensive midfield, transition, clearing middie, man up, and last year on that great UNC first line offensive midfield. Tags had the national title winning assist to Chris Cloutier.

I recall following Tags' San Ramon Valley class back to 2009. That whole class was highly recruited. Tags of course, to UNC. Pat Worstell to Syracuse, where he changed his commitment to football and U Cal. Jordan La Tendresse was recruited to Navy Prep, but opted instead for Penn State. Jordan Weiss was recruited to Penn State also. Underclassmen Austin French and Aran Roberts were also on that senior laden squad that won the N Cal title in 2012.

Well, on to the real world boys, and well done.

NCS is an all EBAL final 4.

First semifinal will be SRV/Amador. SRV will be favored in that one for sure. Amador is 11-2 since they played SRV back in March, and will probably be looking for a stronger showing than in their last game.

Second semifinal will be Monte Vista at De La Salle. DLS needed OT to get past Marin Catholic. DLS won this matchup a couple weeks ago in OT, so it should be a barn burner.

Looking forward to Wednesday's games!

I'm surprised to see no one is talking about Coronado's upset win over Torrey Pines in the CIF semifinals....

Upset specials all over the place...

Amador with a huge upset win over SRV in double-OT on Weds night. Amador came to play, and earned the victory. SRV just never quite got going the way they have this season.

DLS over MV 8-6. #2 DLS vs. #5 Amador in the NCS finals on Saturday.

Coronado with an upset over Torrey on Weds as well. La Costa vs. Coronado in the finals on Saturday.

What this series of upsets tells us is that CA lax is no longer 4 or 5 teams deep in a national context. The top teams can get their shins kicked and shooters suppressed and defense embarrassed by 2nd tier teams, which means that CA is becoming 2 (or more) tiers deep.

These losses of the CA champions in the national polls willhurt the State in the final rankings, but going forward it will help the State gain recognition.

It's also great to see the top of the Southern section mushrooming out. It used to be Foothill and then some OC competition and then WWAAYY back the LA teams. Now an LA team has won the section twice in a row. Very encouraging!

LCC beat the Coronado Islanders for the San Diego Open section 10 to 9 in a game that came down to the last possession. Watched it on TVX. Both teams were excellent.

As to SI, very well done indeed. Save up for business class next spring and hope to see you schedule some MIAA teams. You will enjoy coming to McDonogh in Owings Mills (where Louis Rukeyser broadcasted Wall Street Week for all those years), and then come around 695 to hit up BL and Gilman. Then, head down to Potomac and Bethesda to play Bullis and the 2017 national champions, Landon. Will be a great trip. Book it now! You go 4-1 on that trip and you will end up number 1 or number 2.

Old Mesh, if a year ago you knew that your west coast team would have 3 days on the east coast, would you have been unhappy with Landon, Garden City, and Chaminade for your games?

Heck no.

Everyone knew that all three schools had strong teams returning. They ended up a #1, #31, and # 8 (as of today) in the national rankings (who would have thought that Garden City would be the weak sister in your opponent list?).

I think that the teams that the St I coach managed to get onto his schedule represent the hotbeds as well as possible. Yeah, in hind sight it would have been better to schedule Landon, Darien, and CSH, and maybe pick up Culver on the way to or from the east. Oh well.

If you volunteer to fund a few extra days in the east and help St I arrange for a few more games in the DMV, I can assure you that they'll strap it up with anyone.

But I want to take this opportunity to remind all those folks who differed with me 10 years ago when I suggested that 'frontier' teams would move into a nationally recognized 'elite' status sooner than later. There are a half dozen or more programs off the I-95 corridor who can give a game to (and possibly beat) the top half dozen teams from the hotbeds. This is clear evidence that our game is spreading geographically.

Production Company Seeks Extras for Lacrosse Series

New postby Primecasting on Mon Sep 25, 2017 4:26 pm

AwesomenessTV, a media and entertainment company based in Santa Monica, is seeking male lacrosse athletes to appear in an as yet untitled lacrosse series that begins filming in Van Nuys THIS week. The series will be aired on Verizon Go90.

Specifically, the producers are looking for lacrosse athletes that meet the following criteria:

MUST be at least 18 years old
    A Caucasian male Lacrosse Player to play a DOUBLE(Height 5'9-5'11) - Pay $225/8hrs
Male Lacrosse Players of all Heights and Ethnicity - Pay $175/8hrs
Able to commute to Van Nuys area for filming
Filming is scheduled for September 28th.

Background lacrosse player extras will be paid $175 for an eight-hour day. Those chosen to be a DOUBLE for one of the lead actors will be paid $225 for an eight-hour day.

If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, email CASTING@PRIMECASTING.COM with your name, phone number and a picture of yourself.

From the producers:

AwesomenessTV is a joint venture of DreamWorks Animation and Verizon Hearst Media Partners that has nearly 5.5 million subscribers on its YouTube! channel.

In partnership with a big-name sports brand, AwesomenessTV is producing this Untitled Lacrosse Series to promote the sport of lacrosse and encourage young women to participate and stay in sports by reminding young girls they can be both feminine and athletic at the same time.

Participation in youth sports is declining, unfortunately, with girls dropping out of sport at twice the rate of boys due to unequal opportunity and encouragement. But research shows that active teens do better in life. A survey of 400 female corporate execs found that 94 percent played a sport and 61 percent said it has contributed to their success.

That is a great post, Billax. Awesome time. I live on the east coast, but if I were out in Ca, no doubt I'd be headed over to SI to catch the day's events.

Ah, Beaver Creek. I now live on the East Coast as well... but I'm flyin' out to SFO tomorrow to take in the game. My youngest returned to his hometown after college and, as a former St. Ignatius laxer, he'll be there, too. As a Yalie, he'll be rooting for ND. An anonymous source indicated that there'll be a little over a thousand paying customers in attendance. If so, that'll approximate this past year's average home attendance for a Harvard game.

Both the NCAA and the NFL have Air Quality Index (AQI) standards which, if exceeded, require game cancellations. The NCAA standard, above which games must be cancelled, is 200. The NFL also has Air Quality Standards. Using the same Index as the NCAA, the Pros have a maximum AQI of 150 – above which games must be cancelled.

San Francisco looks to have an AQI of less than or equal to 150, so NCAA contests look playable. On the other hand, the Oakland Raiders must have an AQI of less than 150 to play – and 150 is touch and go for Oakland's AQI.
------------------------
Here is the Official NCAA policy:

Member schools should consider modifying or canceling outdoor athletic events (practices and competitions) in accordance with AQI guidance. Exposure should be managed more conservatively for student athletes with pre-existing pulmonary or cardiac conditions, which may exacerbate the complications of these conditions and could lead to an acute medical emergency. Specifically, schools should consider removing sensitive athletes from outdoor practice or competition venues at an AQI over 100. At AQIs of over 150, all athletes should be closely monitored. All athletes should be removed from outdoor practice or competition venues at AQIs of 200 or above.

Hey - just stumbled on this post in an ADHD moment and saw the list of top California offensive producers.

I'd like to give a shout out to Nick Curic - DLS - CW Post and played in their two DII NCAA championship games (2009 and 2010) and was their #2 / #3 points producer his Soph / Jr / Sr years.

I believe he finished with 155 points.

(Good to read my old neighbor Billax' posts....! Just like old times...)
