12-11 final. Questionable call at the end on NU's final possesion... Good win for Hopkins though.

Panic button for NU? I wouldn't say so, but definitely teetering on the edge...

'Cats got outhustled by the Jays. They didn't help themselves by making some horrible plays in crunch time. Maybe nothing left in the tank after Florida, but they are looking like a pretty ordinary team at the moment. Great games by Colleen McCaffrey and Brooke Lipinski. Obviously a big win for the JHU program.

Are you talking about the Charge Call? Definitely Not a horrible call. I don't care which way that play was called, half the people were going to be upset.

I turned the game on with 7 minutes left and WOW!!!!! I thought Hopkins might have lost the game when they scored their last goal to go up by two. NU won the next draw and promptly scored. They then won the next draw and I figured it was "curtains" for the Jays.

I was wrong

And yes, this may be Baltimore, but the weather is a Chicago-like mess.

Hopkins now holds its fate in its own hands. Win out against OSU and PSU and they are the #2 seed in the ALC tournament and they get one of the two opening round byes.

After seeing the 7-6 halftime score, I hopped on my UNI-cycle and set the land speed record from Snarkeytown to Homewood Field. I arrived at the 12 minute mark just as Hopkins was going up by 1. I was walking into the stadium as they extended it to 2.

Hopkins was on top of their game and you could see the confidence building as the minutes tic'd off. After Northwestern scored to close to within 1 with 4 minutes to play, both teams showed just how hard it was to maintain control. Lot's of turnovers by both sides. The key call was the timeout by Hopkins that allowed the coaches to tell their team to utilize their goalie for their stall game. It worked!

I didn't see much speed on the field from either squad. Of course there were one or two exceptions, but Northwestern's Thonton couldn't be everywhere at once. Hopkins had a speedy middie who was able to clear the ball as well.

Lot's will be written about the trevails of Northwestern but I think it mostly comes down to a lack of the team speed required in order to carry out the Wildcat game plan. It was really exposed against Florida and it continued to be exploited by Hopkins.

I believe Hopkins holds the #2 ALC Seed in it's own control. Beat Penn State and Ohio State and the #2 seed (and bye) is theirs (I think).

More thoughts after I re-hydrate for a while.

Quite right on the seeding aspect. If Hopkins wins out they are at 3-2 which is the best that NW can finish if they beat OSU. The ALC tiebreaker in that situation is the head to head so Hopkins gets #2 and NW gets #3.

Remaining ALC games

OSU@PSU 4/17
FL@Vandy 4/17
OSU@NW 4/22
PSU @ JHU 4/23
JHU@OSU 4/30

Incorrect.

Actually, OSU holds its own fate as it only has one loss to Florida with games left at PSU, NW, and home against Hopkins.

JHU, NW, and PSU each have two confernce losses.

Tall order for the Buckeyes, but not impossible.

It's been a bad road trip for the Cats. Not only were they beaten on the field of athletic endeavor, they also suffered two clear defeats on the fashion runway.

Florida's Nike uniforms, despite those horrendous orange and blue colors, scored a 1st round knockout over those black Adidas depression era throwback uniforms the Cats modeled that evening.

In Baltimore against the Hop, the Adidas Fab-Five purple set was easily outclassed by the Blue Jay's version of Under Armour's classic smackdown array (wicking moisture away from the body to keep those Angry Birds heaving bombs)!

Not a good road trip at all.

Actually not incorrect. Hopkins holding its own fate means they have to win out for that scenario and therefore beat OSU. If Hopkins beats OSU and OSU beats both PSU and NW, then NW goes to 2-3 and is out of the picture and Hopkins still gets the #2 by virtue of beating OSU. That is not to say however, there are not scenarios where the Buckeyes could get the #2, but they involve beating JHU, I think. If the Bucs can win out they would get the #2 seed if FL beats Vandy, so it is fair to say they also have their fate in their own hands.

all I can say is WOW. good game by Hopkins, McCaffrey does the damage again, just like her freshman yr.

after a strong start, NU looked average. not sure what happened. loss to FL? travel? :confusion-shrug:

3-7 in FPs and only 2 saves.

for the record, NU hasn't lost 2 in the regular season since 2004 and 2 in the ALC since 2003. they lost 3 straight twice in 2003 when they finished 8-8 (KAH's 2nd season) :o

back to the drawing board.
Go Cats!
