MCLA Teams to be represented in 2013 Patriot Cup
[
[
b]DALLAS (December 19, 2012) – The Fifth Annual Patriot Cup Lacrosse Tournament returns to Dallas on Saturday, March 2,[/b] 2013, at SMU’s Ford Stadium. The Patriot Cup will showcase some of the nation’s premier collegiate and high school programs, including perennial powerhouse Georgetown versus Dartmouth. Also featured will be SMU versus Texas A&M, two of the nation’s top MCLA teams (virtual varsity college). Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that seeks to assist men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world. "The Patriot Cup has grown beyond our expectations in the last five years,” said Patriot Cup co chair Tom Fitzsimmons. “These matchups highlight Dallas as the place to see lacrosse played at its best. No sport has grown faster at the high school and college levels over the last ten years. ” In addition to the Dartmouth/Georgetown game, two of the best high school teams in the nation will square off when state championship teams Highland Park and the Lawrenceville School of Princeton, New Jersey, take the field. “This is a great opportunity for fans of all ages to really get up close and watch lacrosse at its best,” added Co-chair Tim Perkins. Dartmouth head coach Andy Towers is excited about the prospect of bringing his team down to Texas, lacrosse’s newest ‘hot-bed’ of top-level competition. “I think that Texas is fast becoming one of the nation's hot beds for D-1 recruits. In general, they always seem to be very athletic, coachable, and willing to put in the work necessary to reach their potential as people, students, and athletes. Not to mention, they're hyper- competitive as well. These are all qualities that coaches look for in recruiting.” Georgetown head coach Kevin Warne added, “I think playing in the Patriot Cup is great for the Georgetown lacrosse program. It’s an opportunity for our guys to experience a different atmosphere. It also gives us a chance to help grow the sport away from the east coast into a place like Texas.”

They might be stretching a little naming Dartmouth and Georgetown as perennial powerhouses, and SMU and Texas A&M as two of the top MCLA teams, but it sounds like it will be a great event. The Highland Park / Lawrenceville game should be interesting as well.

agreed , stretching it is correct. Patriot Cup hasn't had the attendance that has been hoped for in past years.

A packed house could lead to an arguement for eventually hosting the NCAA's. Hopefully folks will turn out.

Re: MCLA Div 1 2013
Not sure of the specifics but generally a local school with an NCAA Lacrosse program, in this case DI, is the "Host" institution. This year Drexel is the host for the championship weekend in Philly. Not sure if a two year old DIII program at Univ of Dallas would fit the bill. I doubt it will move off the east coast for many years and if it ever does, I'm guessing Denver would be the first city outside the eastern time zone to get the championship weekend.

Texas is ranked too low, but time will tell. The team is fast and simply very good on both ends of the field.
Now looking forward to games against: UC Santa Barbara and Sonoma State ~ that will give a much better sense of where the Longhorns are.

Chapman also snuck by ASU 8-7 in OT Friday night...didn't see it but sounded like a gritty game...lots of emotion on both sides...they need to meet again in the SLC Tournament...
